UAS Precision Surveying and Infrastructure Inspection
Thursday, January 11, 2018
1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
This class will include a 2 to 3 hour discussion including the latest on the FAA regulatory considerations for commercial use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) as well as some basic safety considerations for UAS operations. We will also discuss applications using UAS for surveying. Weather permitting, we will conduct a 1-hour flight demonstration of a UAS conducting a surveying mission.
Kurt will be assisted by: Travis Balthazor, a K-State Salina alumnus, joined the unmanned aircraft systems program in 2014 as a UAS pilot for the Applied Aviation Research Center. He is currently the Flight Operations Manager. Previously, Balthazor was an advanced flight instructor for the university and worked on projects in the UAS lab during his free time. Balthazor grew up on a farm near Palco, Kansas, and always had an interest in aviation. At K-State Salina, he earned several flight ratings including commercial instrument multi-engine airplane and certified flight instructor instrument airplane. As a flight instructor, he trained, soloed and endorsed students for check rides. Balthazor holds a BS degree in airway science - professional pilot, as well as a minor in aviation safety, and an unmanned aircraft systems certificate.
